Panama, Chile team to develop Pacific cruise routes.

Chile and Panama are working together to develop and promote Pacific itineraries that support the new cruise terminal under construction at Amador near Panama City and the proposed new Valparaíso pier where cruise ships would get priority.

El Mercurio de Valparaíso on Sunday cited Panama President Juan Carlos Varela’s comments about the potential for promoting cruise tourism to the Southern Cone during the Central American leader’s visit last April.

Panama’s Airlines sees potential for direct flight partnership with Air China.

There is potential for Panama’s flag carrier Copa Airlines to work with its Chinese counterpart Air China to run direct flights between their countries, Copa’s Executive President Pedro Heilbron said Tuesday.

“The idea is … when (Air China) flights come to Panama, they can connect with Copa’s network,” he said.

Heilbron said the two companies are working on a codeshare flight agreement and coordinating schedules should be possible.

“China is one of the sources of travelers with the biggest global growth. Our region is a distinct and attractive region which is not well connected with China,” he said.

Buying Real Estate in Panama

Have you been considering buying real estate in Panama as an investment, or as your next home? Real estate in Panama is quite popular for international buyers, with a growing market in both new and old properties, and long-term rental potential all over the country. Real estate in Panama is diverse, dynamic, and can truly fit any budget, as long as you know where to look, (and more importantly) what you’re looking for.

Under Panamanian law, you must have a license to sell real estate, and must be vetted under a number of circumstances that aim to protect both the buyer, and the seller. That being said, there are many people (including expats) that try to broker real estate without a license, for some extra cash or as a favor. We highly recommend you only do business with a well-known realty group with licensed realtors only. Don’t fall for the temptation of a “friendly” deal. If it seems too good to be true, it probably is, so hedge your risk by starting on the right track. You may find it beneficial to talk to a few realtors, as prices may vary, and area availability will change.
