Panama says canal operating normally; no ships detained

Panama’s Canal Authority said on Wednesday that the canal was operating normally and without delays, adding that no ships had been detained in the trade waterway.

The entity posted the statement on Twitter in response to a tweet from Venezuela’s Vice President Delcy Rodriguez, who said a ship carrying 25,000 tonnes of soy had been detained in the canal.

Israeli ambassador to Panama, a Druze, decries treatment at Ben Gurion Airport.

Israel’s ambassador to Panama on Saturday said security personnel at Ben Gurion Airport delayed him and his family when they found out he was from an Arab village in the country’s north.

Mansour, 54, is a member of Israel’s Druze community and from the Druze-majority village of Ussafiya, near Haifa. He is a veteran diplomat and has previously served as Israel’s ambassador to Brazil and Ecuador.

Twenty-one members of the UNK chapter of Volunteers Around the World traveled to the Central American country to work in mobile medical clinics that provided free care and medication to more than 300 patients.
