The program of the pope’s next visit to Panama in January 2019 on the occasion of World Youth Day is already known.

Pope Francis will arrive at Panama’s Tocumen International airport on Wednesday, January 23. There he will be received by the civil and ecclesiastical authorities of the country. He will then go to the nunciature to rest after the long journey from Rome.

On Thursday, January 24, the welcoming ceremony will take place at the Presidential Palace of Panama. Here Pope Francis will be received by the president of the country. He will then meet the authorities and the diplomatic corps.

Xi to visit Spain, Portugal and Panama around G-20 trip.

Chinese President Xi Jinping plans to visit Spain and Portugal between late November and early December, around the time of his trip to Argentina for the Group of 20 summit starting Nov. 30, diplomatic sources told Nikkei.

Xi is slated to arrive in Spain on Nov. 28 and attend an event marking the 45th anniversary of the establishment of relations between Madrid and Beijing. He will meet with Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez to discuss topics including China’s Belt and Road Initiative.

Panama, Namibia plan to reveal fishing fleet data via online map.

In a bid to beef up fisheries security, Panama and Namibia have announced their intentions to make information on the location of fishing boats in their waters publicly available via the open-access platform Global Fishing Watch (GFW).

Representatives of the two nations recently praised GFW’s mapping service for helping governments tackle illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing. GFW tracks the location and activities of commercial fishing boats using signals from tracking devices that many fishing vessels carry: either the Automatic Identification System (AIS) that broadcasts publicly, or the Vessel Monitoring System, (VMS) which is proprietary to individual nations.
